Wikipedia Official Android App Launched

Wikipedia announces its official Android app for anyone using smartphones or tablets running Android 2.2 Froyo and newer OS versions. It’s the official Wikipedia app for Android, so users can get access to more than 20 million articles in 280 languages on their Android smartphones. Wikipedia app users can read articles,  save them to read later or while offline. Users may also share articles they like with friends using Android’s “share” function and click one button to translate an article into some 40 languages.

The free encyclopaedia, arguably, is one of the most comprehensive and widely used reference work humans have ever compiled and it coming to Android will only make information and knowledge more accessible. One of the knocks on the application is that GPS for the search-nearby-article function keeps running in the background even after users exit Wikipedia.

Wikipedia Android App Features:

  • Save article to read later or offline
  • Search articles nearby
  • Share articles using Android “Share” function
  • Read article in a different language
  • Full screen search

App Deep Details:

User Base: 1 million+ users worldwide
File Size: 558KB for Android
Prices: Free
